DOORS. They act as barrier to an entrance or an enclosed space. When opened, they allow access for people, ventilation as well as light to pass through. We come in contact with them daily, but have we ever wonder what keeps them "hanging" ?
Yes, Hinges. There are so many types of Hinges in the market, just to name a few:
1. Butterfly Hinge

These were known as dovetail hinges from the 17th century on wards and can be found on old desks and cabinets from about 1670 until the 18th century. Their sized ranged from the very large for heavy doors to the tiniest decorative hinge for use on jewelry boxes.
They are still found to be most economical and fairly decorative.
2. Spring Hinge

A Spring hinge is a spring-loaded hinge made to provide assistance in the closing or the opening of the hinge leaves. Beware of door slamming, they could damage locksets in the long run. Hence its important to adjust the closing speed accordingly. It can easily be adjusted with an Allen key AKA Hex key. Alternatively, one could use a door closer as door closers allow adjustments not just the closing speed but also a cushioning effect before the door closes shut.
Closing speeds are worth taking note when children or disabled are using these facilities.
3. Floor Spring Hinge

BONCO brand FH-S 314 is build with a hold-open at 90 degrees.
They come in a series capable of bearing a door weight of 75-200kg.
A Floor spring hinge acts as a pivot hinge combined with a door closer, it too has an adjustment for closing speed.

An installed Floor spring hinge allows the door to swing both sides, we call it the Double Action.
4. Concealed Hinge

Conceals entirely into the door, When door is closed, the hinge is entirely hidden from sight.
One convenient advantage of the concealed hinge is that it has adjustability for the standoff distance from the door frame, making it one-size-fits-all.
5. Soft-closing Hinge
These hinges slows down the speed of cabinet doors when closing.
"Wont be able to stop tantrums, but you can stop the slamming"
Jokes aside. These hinges can protect your cabinets from being damaged.
6. Sliding system

We see sliding doors in Shopping malls, offices and residential homes. they are simply are held up by a track and trolleys. They serve to divide and open up spaces elegantly.
The right selection of door "hangers" is dependent on the size and weight of the door. Seek advice from an ironmongery expert for correct specifications. Wrong selection of hinges or sliding systems may render fatal accidents
e.g: Falling of cabinet doors or worst, "human-sized doors".
